About Me

Black & White Photography

On a trip to Lamu in December 2004 I took with me a point-and-shoot camera and a few rolls of Black and White film. The results were not impressive but stirred a deeper interest in photography.

On returning to Nairobi in January 2005 I began seeking to photograph weddings in Black & White, I enjoyed it and the clients were happy. I acquired a second-hand SLR film camera in 2005.

My fascination with Black and White photography has been with me from childhood; I loved my parents' wedding photos seeking to replicate this for my clients.

Digital Photography

In 2006 I took delivery of my first Digital SLR camera.

My work was still biased to Black & White photography but I began shooting more in colour. I did more weddings, in my travels I shot landscapes, and tried shooting model portfolios.

In late 2007 I was engaged on freelance basis by The Nairobi Star newspaper [now The Star]; I worked with them for a couple of months.

I have since done work for P.R. companies, Brand Agencies and NGOs. I have also worked with several magazines where in addition to photography I also did some writing.

Exhibitions

Some of my images formed part of the '24Nairobi' exhibition in 2008 and subsequent book of the same title published in 2011.

I participated in an exhibition in 2010 titled 'Sustain-Ability'.

I had my first solo exhibition 'Reflected' on the 30th of September 2013.

In May/June 2013 images from my collection 'Glowing Faces' were part of the 'Mwangalio Tofauti II' exhibition.

On the 8th of December 2013 I exhibited images in an exhibition called 'Kudishnyao-4X6'.

My images were part of the images the group exhibition ‘Frontiers of The Present’ at Circle Art Gallery in September 2016.

In October 2020 I had a month long exhibition titled ’10.20.30’ at Alliance Française, Nairobi.

Training Classes

I have created and delivered photography training courses: at Awjama Cultural Centre, Eastleigh in 2019; at GoDown Arts Centre in 2021 and 2022; at McMillan Memorial Library, Eastlands Branch in 2023 and 2024.

Live Music Photography

As part of my work with Nairobi Star [now The Star] and later with Drum Magazine I used to photograph concerts and live music events. This became an interest of mine and I began actively documenting live music in Nairobi for my own collection from 2010 to date. I share these images on social media.
